Marlin 39a serial number dates

It is unknown as of December 2013 how Marlin ("Remlin") will continue with their serial numbering convention. It is important to note that some "budget" Marlin Rimfire rifles that were manufactured prior to 1968 did not have a serial number. Many of these had letter "codes" on them that will help ID date of manufacture.

I have a Marlin 22 with AB in the serial number. Can anyone help me determine the year it was manufactured? I am getting some conflicting reports as I have been told it was manufactured in 1966 but also found a previous post on here that indicates it would have been manufactured prior to 1953.
