We have a cottage up in Maine, off the grid, with no ability (nor desire) to install septic system. Last year we used a Sun-Mar composting toilet, with the composting unit outside the house. It stank, did not work properly, and could not work in cold conditions (the plastic crank handle will freeze, rendering the unit inoperable).
