Recently reopened is the North Carolina Arboretum. One of the best I have been to on the East Coast of the US. It has formal gardens, wild flowers, bonsai and miles and miles of Natural Trails. Located minutes from Asheville the N.C. Arboretum can easily consume a 1/2 day visit. The entrance is free but you do have to pay for parking.
